Easter Fever

Entry for NostaleDE's April Fanart Contest - Topic: NosVille in Easter Fever

Yees, I decided to join one of Nostale's drawing contests again. I know it's already way past Easter and I guess with the beginning of May even the last tiny bit of Easter feeling has gone for all of us. But somehow, though, this time I thought I'd wait with my submission until the contest is over. Originally I even wanted to wait for the results but I just couldn't hold it any longer. And who knows, maybe the judging will take up to the end of May. It would be even weirder to submit an Easter pic by then. :'D

Looking at this I'd say: I could do much better. Not necessarily colouring-wise but drawing-wise. It started off more like a doodle, I didn't even care much about anatomy and such, I just drew, in a slightly more chibi-ish style similar to that of my last Nostale pic. Well to be honest, I didn't intend it to be more than like... a last-minute entry as I decided to join the contest only very late. So as you might see, I didn't even bother doing a proper clean lineart but left it rather sketchy. It doesn't look bad after all but clean is always nicer, I - as a perfectionist - know that very well.
However, I guess the little effort I put in the drawing itself is quite well outweighed by the rather great effort I put into the colouring and background.

Talking about the idea, well one was told to draw something Easter themed of course, including a nest with eggs and an Egg Fairy (that little thing "hiding" in the bush in the background). I was lucky to have had quite a nice idea for this instantly. I guess else I wouldn't have joined the contest at such a late point, after all. Drawing something from them point of view of something/someone below a bush seemed quite nice to me and was also something interesting and new to try out. After all, I was still in the mood to practise bushes a little more, after I finally figured out HOW to do them properly. In the end it took me quite a while to get everything right with the light "outside" and the shadows in the front below the bush being strong enough... without looking weird.

I'm not sure if I can make it up to any prize with this pic, but I'd be very happy if I did. Let's just wait~ c:
